This morning, I found it tough to get out of bed. Oh, I was awake, alright. Drew’s alarm went off at 0645 and I was in and out of sleep from then till 0900. I’ve learned to play possum with the dog and have experienced the odd contradiction that is wishing for sunshine in the same breath which curses it for rising so dad-blamed early.
I’m not lazy.
I’m not entitled.
I got plenty of sleep last night.
I’m just happy to have a bed.
It’s a mite late (by a few weeks), but I want to say a huge thank you to GreeNest for providing us a completely furnished home and full kitchen set. We’d still be floundering without your help. The tour of GreeNest with Jan and Joann as we picked out our things was such great fun and y’all were truly a joy to chat with.
For those who may not know, GreeNest is a nonprofit which partners with case management programs in Forsyth County (North Carolina). Together, these programs provide furniture and other base essentials (kitchenware, lamps) to the recently rehoused. This is a major step forward for the community as those who have previously been homeless rarely have the funds with which to purchase such items themselves. Families are allowed to choose for themselves what they’d like for their home.
I dragged my feet going out the door to the bus stop this afternoon — though I was fully dressed, fully packed, didn’t need makeup, and was excited to go. I was walking in circles from room to room and back again. The point is, I eventually boarded the bus into town and spent time at the library. And when I returned, I had somewhere soft to sit that wasn’t my toilet, my floor, or an unkempt sleeping bag masquerading as a bed. I’ll probably drag my feet again tomorrow, but then I’ll remember…
If you would like to assist or donate to GreeNest, there are several options provided via their website, or feel free to contact them for further info.
